The 2008 Uncompahgre National Forest Map produced by the US Forest Service contains the most current information on roads, trails, recreation sites, travel restrictions and contact phone numbers for the Uncompahgre National Forest.

The mountain division of the Uncompahgre National Forest covers an area of approximately 460,000 acres and is located in west-central Colorado. Uncompahgre is a Ute word describing an area north of Ouray meaning, "Rocks that make Water Red." This portion of the Forest encompasses the rugged northern slopes of the San Juan Mountains in addition to high plateaus, narrow stream valleys and steep-walled canyons like those surrounding the towns of Telluride, Ouray and Lake City.

In addition to including the Uncompaghre Wilderness, the map also contains Mount Sneffels Wlderness and Lizard Head Wilderness.
